I have such a zest for life and all things bright and beautiful that sometimes, well, sometimes I jump into things that I wish I hadn’t. Most recently, in my quest for making some health and lifestyle changes I signed up for Dahn Yoga. (If you’re a fan, pardon me.) I came home from work one day and stuck in my door frame was a brochure and flyer with a discount introductory offer. Well, heck, it came right to my front door, so surely I was meant to do it?
I made an appointment and met the delightful proprietors. I completed a brief application and the instructor took me in a little room where he proceeded to ask a few clarifying questions. Although I was still admittedly a little cautious – if only because I’d never heard of this type of yoga – I was pleasantly surprised as well as impressed – with how accurately he diagnosed my ailments. So I decided to give it a try. But of course money exchanged hands first.
Strangely, or so it seemed to me,on the evening I arrived for my first session they took my picture – so I could compare the before and after pictures once my 3 months trial period was up. Alas, after 3 sessions, I decided I really didn’t like it and elected not to return. Almost $500 in the hole. What I should have done was asked to take a class first, before deciding whether or not to join. Isn’t life full of woulda-coulda-shouldas? Mine certainly is.
This blog is not to bash on Dahn Yoga – it just wasn’t for me. One lady I spoke to had been attending for three years! I just couldn’t see it (although I liked the people and the music) most probably because it wasn’t what I expected a yoga class to be like. Isn’t that how we judge most everything – by our expectations? Either based on our past life experiences or general (lack) of knowledge?
So, while Pink Passport Society is all about living in the here and now, with full gusto, sometimes taking a little extra time to explore the reality of it all might be in order. Ask all those questions that are bubbling up inside. Some of them probably need to be answered. But please don’t resort to over thinking everything. You should still try it – you might just like it!
What about you? Learned any expensive lessons lately?
